Niall's art features in Bellota Show in Adams Blackrock.

Wednesday night saw a packed house in Adams, Blackrock, Dublin for the inaugural show of the 'Bellota Club'. The Bellota Club is a group of ten people who have come together to essentially buy and enjoy Irish Art.

Each member of the group contributes €50 a month to a central fund or kitty, and every two months the kitty is available to one member, on rotation, to go out an by a piece, or two, of original art by a living Irish artist.  Each member of the group then has the new piece of art for two months and then it 'goes on tour' around the different houses. So each member benefits from having the opportunity to new and interesting art in their house every couple of months ... what a great idea ...!!!

One member of the group bought one of my paintings 'Revive' at my solo show late last year in the Sol Gallery, Dawson Street, on behalf of the group.

The show on Wednesday evening last represented the end of the first exhibition of work purchased by the group. The group were keen to have an event to celebrate coming together and enjoy all the art in one place at one time. The members of the group, friends and the artists themselves were invited along for the event. Patricia Boyd kicked off proceedings on the night with a great insight into the origins of and drive behind the group. The original idea actually came from a trip by Patricia to New Zealand a couple of years ago. Patricia also explained that the word 'Bellota' actually means 'acorn' in Spanish, which gives some insight into their confidence in what they are trying to do here ..!!

Work from 10 different artists was on display and I have to say the mix of styles presented a visual feast for all who were there. Artist Letty le Jeune & myself gave short speeches saying thank you to the group for buying original art and no surprise, to most who know me, I expanded a wee bit and talked about how my art attempts to tap into & reflect positivity ...!!

I have to say there was a great crowd there and a fabulous atmosphere ... really positive ..!!!

Many thanks to the Bellota Club and best wishes for the next chapter in your art adventure.

Many thanks as well to Martina & Bryan Greene of Adams Blackrock for hosting the event.
