New Work - New Line

I am so thrilled to release the first images of a new style I have been working on over the last few months. I could feel an inner push to create a new, distinctive, modern and vibrant style, and after much time experimenting in the studio, I'm really thrilled with the result.

      R-Line, Acrylic & 22 carat gold leaf on canvas panel, WxH 30 x 27cm

I wanted to create something that was visually impactful and eye catching and yet spoke directly to the core inspiration of my work for over ten years now - positivity ...!!

I believe my paintings are still capturing the different elements that go to create great and positive moments in our lives. I'm really happy with the move towards capturing increased intensity and purity of colour in my work, reflecting the appreciation of each ingredient that goes to make up a positive or a great moment.

I'm really enjoying the play and harmony of the colours within each piece and the three dimensionality of the pieces as they are wrapped around a deep edged canvas. There is also an 'optical flutter' at play, with some viewers observing a sense of movement or even vibration across the intensely coloured lines of varying widths.

It's been a real challenge moving to a new style but it has been particularly satisfying in recent weeks as I could see my thoughts, ideas, experimentation, new techniques, all 'coming together' in a vibrant, clean and impactful new style. I could feel within myself a sense of pride and satisfaction with the new distinctive style I have created. For nearly 12 years now, my work has been signed by a gold leaf square, typically placed on the lower left hand side of many of my pieces. Even as I was exploring my new style, I believed I would retain the gold leaf square signature and place it on the underside of the deep edged canvas towards the left hand side. However, as my initial couple of pieces were taking shape I decided to break away from the gold leaf square and incorporate my signature as a gold leaf line on the left hand side. I like it ... !

Over the last couple of weeks I've shown a selection of the first pieces in the new style to both the Sol Art Gallery in D'Olier St. Dublin and the Chimera Gallery in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath. I'm delighted with their reaction and looking forward to opportunities to show the new work, kicking off with the Hampstead AAF in London in early May.

More images of other pieces and colours to follow ... soon.
