Business Design Awards – Niall on the Jury Panel

I was delighted to be invited to be a member of the jury panel to judge the excellent range of entries for the Irish Design Effectiveness Awards or IDEA as they are otherwise known.

The awards are unique in Ireland as they look to identify and reward the entry that was the most effective piece of design and delivered tangible, measurable economic benefits to the client. I was in great company and we reviewed, discussed and evaluated the entries over two sessions. My fellow jurors, who all brought something different to the table were:

• Grainne Millar, Temple Bar Cultural Trust

• Anthony Collins, Founder and CEO of

• Christopher O’Shaughnessy, a seasoned Creative Director who has recently returned from Canada;

• Eddie Shanahan, well known for his leadership role in the retail sector and as Chairperson at the Council of Irish Fashion Designers.

The IDEA Awards reward designers who worked hard to produce solutions that worked hard for their client and unlike other design awards the design agency and the client both receive an award – as both are acknowledged as co-creators.

The IDEA Award Grand Prix 2011 was awarded to The Brand Union for their work on Glenilen Farm rebranding. Glenilen Farm is a family-run dairy farm in the heart of West Cork, Ireland, producing a range of delicious products using highest quality ingredients.
